Top Ten Thursdays: Gift ideas for the Asian MMORPG player
I love gifts … who doesn’t? And since I’m a fanatic massively multiplayer online role-playing game geek, I’d want gifts that appeal to my tastes and send shivers through all my five senses—in real life and in virtual reality.
My wife, being an MMORPG player herself, is now saddled with the monumental task of finding the right gift for me in both worlds. She has done a splendid job of scouring every nook and cranny of every store in Tacloban City in the southern Philippine province of Leyte for geeky real-life gifts for her husband, yours truly.
Since I’m a very naughty boy, I don’t have a qualm about peeking into giftboxes labeled “Joel” that are under the Christmas tree. Lo and behold, five gifts to satisfy even the most hardcore MMORPG player:

A shirt with the logo of my favorite Asian MMORPG
No, that’s not me in the photograph but fellow MMORPG blogger and good friend PJ Punla and her Granado Espada tee, which she wears to all GE events hosted by IP E-Games, the local publisher of the game. So what am I getting? Why, a Perfect World shirt, of course, courtesy of our friends at Level Up! Games.
An action figure of any Asian MMORPG character
Okay, it’s not a doll; it’s an action figure, fully poseable, unlike those pea-brained male dolls that your sisters pair up with their Barbies. No offense to Barbie fanatics. I used to play with them, too, only with my short but brawny He-Man ACTION FIGURES. ‘Nuff said.
Game installers, preferably of free Asian MMORPGs
Yes, I get bored sometimes, even of supposedly “favorite” MMORPGs. This is the reason why I stock up on installers of different MMORPGs, from cartoony Fly For Fun and Rush On Seven Episodes (may the gaming gods bless its poor digital soul), to hardcore Perfect World, Granado Espada or Lineage II.
Top-up cards for item mall credits or game time
The subtitle says it all. I simply can’t live without them, especially when I’m playing item mall-intensive games. Hmmm, come to think of it, almost all free-to-play MMORPGs require heavy doses of top-ups.
A powerful computer on which I can play the best MMORPGs Asians dish out
Ahhh, the icing on the cake. Nothing beats a Christmas highlighted by the booting up of a brand new computer, preferably an Intel Pentium Core2Duo equipped with at least a gig of memory and a 512-megabyte video card. No, it’s not under the tree yet, but I’m sure the wife has it stashed somewhere.
I’m cutting this week’s Top Ten Thursdays into a Top Five, not because I can’t think of anything else to write, rather I have TOO MUCH to write. A Top Ten just won’t do it, considering half of the equation for perfect gifts for MMORPG players can’t be had in the real world.
Bottomline: Virtual items are more important to us MMORPG players than, say, a brand new cellular phone.
Huh? What’s that? Speak for yourself?
