Broadband users in China: 122 million and growing

by Joel on December 27th, 2007

Here’s more proof that China is THE market for massively multiplayer online role-playing games.

There are now 122 million broadband users in China, with 60 percent of them using the technology to enjoy the Internet, according the the 2008 Working Meeting of China Mobile Corporation.

With that many prospective clients, who number more than the broadband users in the United States, China is definitely moving in the right direction.

Recognizing this fact, the China government recently gave game developers incentives to capitalize on the country’s greatest resource: people.

Only time will tell if local game developers can edge out their Korean and Western counterparts. But with the quality of online games from China steadily growing as well, I’m betting my virtual cash on the developers from the ancient land.
