Drift City: What you get for marrying Need For Speed with MMORPGs

by Joel on January 23rd, 2008

Have your cake and eat it too. This is what I told my friend, Relly, over the phone a few days ago. You see, Relly’s not a fan of MMORPGs. Oh, yes, he tried, once … he even blogged about his adventures in our online game of choice, Perfect World. But he’s big on racing games, so it’s no surprise that he’s thinking of jumping at the opportunity to try out Drift City, a Korean-developed game published in the United States by NHN Corporation.

The game, as the title of this post implies, combines the features of an RPG with the features of a racing game. At present, Drift City is running circles around the competition in South Korea and blazing a trail across America after its open beta launch in September 2007.

After a short birthday celebration last night, I finally had the chance to play Drift City, thanks in part to the help of winwin, the master of Clan Guardians of Perfect World Philippines’ Tiger Server.

“So this is the reason why you’ve been gone for long periods of time from the grinding scene on Perfect World,” I said as winwin walked me through the initial stages of Drift City.

Still can’t believe such a game exists? Take a gander at this video and tell me your loins aren’t itching to ride ‘em wheels.
