Let it Reign in March

by Joel on March 4th, 2008

Last January, I talked about the impending launch of Reign of Revolution, a new massively multiplayer online role-playing game developed by NHN Corporation of South Korea. I had thought the launch would occur some time in mid-2008. I was wrong.

In an interview with video gaming portal 17173, Wang Lei, product manager of Reign of Revolution China revealed that the game would enter its open beta phase in late March. Whoopie!

“The open beta for R2 is estimated to launch in late March. The final date will be announced at the beginning of March. So please be patient. The eight server used in the closed beta will be reserved and the new servers will fulfill the demand of our players,” Wang told 17173.

“In the open beta, R2 will open new land. The number of main cities will be three, and the number of encampments, 18. At the same time, there will be more powerful monsters and new weapons. Accessories like rings and belts will also be activated. I hope these new content will bring more fun to old and new players.”

More good news for those who want to play R2. NHN Corp. has finalized the business model for the game—free-to-play, pay-for-items. This means that a lot more people can enjoy the game without spending much.

Reacting to game balance issues because of the item mall, Wang said “Maybe some Chinese players will get upset. But we promise our players that all items sold in the game are subsidiary and won’t disturb the balance of the game. I believe everyone will be surprised.”

Yes, surprise us please! And please, release more details about the game. I want to try it, as I’m sure a lot of other MMORPG fanatics are waiting on the wings for a chance to dive into that virtual world.
