My World: Perfect World International gets new patch

by Joel on March 7th, 2008

I see green in a Perfect World

Yes, you read that right. Players of Perfect World Philippines must be green with envy since they’ve been clamoring for a new patch since January. There’s a bit of good news for them, however. As far as I can tell, Perfect World Philippines is still ahead of Perfect World International when it comes to features.

Here’s the official announcement from Cubinet Interactive Sdn. Bhd.:

There will be a small patch update today (March 6, 2008). The servers will be taken down at 10 a.m. and will be back up at 11 a.m. (that’s at GMT+8). Players will be able to patch their clients once the server comes back up.

You may obtain this patch via the autopatcher. Should the autopatch process not work for you, you can try to manually patch from version 6 to 12 using the manual patch file which you can download from the following locations:

Before we get down to the nitty-gritty of comparisons, let’s first review the changes in store for players of Perfect World International.

First, the item mall has been updated. I don’t know what the guys up at Cubinet has added (or removed), but I can venture a guess. I’m sure some wings/flying mounts have been added to the previously limited choices. The choices may now include a pair of metal wings (called Ingenuity in the Philippine version) and the swan-like Hymn. If you want to check out how these look like, click here.

Second, new NPCs have been added, and some of them give out quests, like the one for the dungeon “City of Frost Walking.” Unfortunately, the quests for the new dungeons won’t work because the dungeons haven’t been activated yet.

The other changes are merely cosmetic, dealing with fonts and text alignment, so they’re really of no concern to players.

So let’s go back to my earlier statement that Perfect World Philippines is ahead of Perfect World International. Why do I say this? I present three proofs:

1. While Perfect World International does have those odd-looking green items (termed so because weapons emit a green glow and the names of both armors and weapons appear as green text), Perfect World Philippines’ players enjoy more gold items, or molds and casting tools. In my nearly two weeks’ journey in the international version of Pangu, I have seen only a few gold-glowing weapons.

2. Although Perfect World International’s item mall has a lot more stuff up for sale than that in the Philippine version, they don’t have advanced wings/flying mounts/flying swords. Perfect World Philippines has Ingenuity, Butterfly Lovers, Hymn and Meteor, the International edition does not. This may not hold true for long, however, because of the new patch.

3. The cities of Sword, Feather and Beast have not been conquered by any clan with at least two Level 3 territories in the International version. Yes, surprising I’m sure. In the Philippine version of the game, the three starting cities and Dream Port have already been conquered. It’s only a matter of time until one of the major clans sums up the courage to go for either Dragon City or Universal City.
