Perfect World: Going toe-to-toe with Lord Gui Xiao
The coolest thing about new instance dungeons is you’ll never know what to expect. I’ve been playing Perfect World for so long that I know every dungeon’s nook and cranny like the back of my hands that navigating these has become second nature.
Not Dusk Palace, though. Less than a week old on the servers of Perfect World Philippines, it definitely adds spice to online gaming as only patches and updates can elicit.

On the first day of the implementation of Dusk Palace, my adventuring party was hit with one such surprise, in the form of a really nasty boss monster. How nasty? Let’s just say that even at a moderate difficulty level, our entire party was wiped out. Getting creamed by a boss wasn’t a surprise; after all, almost all players I know have to lick wounds right after a first encounter.
What surprised us, however, was the damage the boss inflicted on our avatars’ frail bodies. Lord Gui Xiao, the second to the last boss in Chapter 3 of Dusk Palace, dished out, what, a flat 50,000 points of damage to each party member. That really hurt because our most hardy party member, a Yao Shou or werebeast, only has 15,000 hitpoints. Even with skills to minimize Lord Gui Xiao’s onslaught, they’re just not sufficient.
I remember thinking, “Funny, I thought he was an easy boss because he had only been dealing 1-200 points of physical damage on our Yao Shou tanker, then suddenly, BOOM!, 50,000!”
If you’re encountering Lord Gui Xiao for the first time, you probably don’t know that he’s the victim of a curse and he’s trying his best to keep it in check. Unfortunately, he succumbs to the curse effects a few minutes after you, your partymate, or Lord Gui Xiao lands the first blow.
After several bouts with the behemoth, we finally came up with a solution. The key is vanquishing him before the curse takes over and the hurt (50,000 points of damage!) begins. But since the damage we were dealing wasn’t enough (Lord Gui Xiao usually ends up with a fourth of his original hitpoints when he lands the final blow on our last comrade), it was time to break out the big guns, not in the form of uber weapons but physical and magical attack charms, which increase damage by as much as 125 points.
Coupled with the Yuling (or Elven Priest) skill Void (which increases attack speed and damage), we brought down Lord Gui Xiao on the fifth try. Haha! We were such noobs. But then again who isn’t as far as Dusk Palace is concerned.

Hi. We’ve done this boss, the solution was the party of 7 (continuous switching of partymembers), OR axetype SS and YJ injure while hell YMs and FSs attack with their demon bursts:)
