Perfect World: Green-glowing weapons

by Joel on April 22nd, 2008

Yes, I know, it’s nothing new, especially if you’re playing on a more advanced server like China or Malaysia (which is weird, considering both the Malaysian and Philippine servers are operating with the same patch, or Key 12 … ahh, but this is fodder for another post). It is, however, new in Perfect World Philippines‘ three servers—Dragon, Tiger and Serpent.

So it’s natural that Philippine players of the hit China-made online game don’t know much about 1) the Dusk Palace, where materials for so-called Godly Weapons, Armors and Accessories can be had, 2) what materials are needed to create these, and 3) how to actually craft such items.

First off, you should familiarize yourself with what is called the Dusk Palace Hall of Selection. This place is not only where you start your journey into the depths of the ancient ruins, it is also where the great furnaces are located (aside from those in Dragon City’s southwest district). The furnaces enable players to craft items that have set numbers of bonuses and attributes.

Now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s get to the juicy part: What you actually need to craft the items. It’s important that you know that items crafted at the Dusk Palace furnaces work on a system of succession, which is so unlike the normal molds where the formula is mold plus crafting items equals uber weapons, armor or accessory. What this means is you can’t craft a higher level item without crafting the most basic.

Here’s an example: A Yuling (or Elf Priest) wants to own a Wraith Sword, a mystic weapon that gives the following bonuses—Chanting Time -3 percent, Intelligence 14-15 and Constitution 14-15. If you look at the materials needed to craft the weapon, you’ll discover that most of them can be acquired through conventional means, such as hunting Dusk Palace bosses or purchasing them from some enterprising players. But there’s one item that requires a little more effort: the Sword Soul.

The Sword Soul is the mold for the item you want to craft and this can only be acquired by breaking down a lower-level green item. So if I’ve done my research right, I’ll need to craft a Elderwood Magic Sword first, then break it down to get the mold for the next weapon, the Sorrowful Sword. After I craft and subsequently break down the Sorrowful Sword, I’ll then have the Sword Soul for the Eternal Sword—the last step to that shiny new Wraith Sword I’m craving.

Sigh. So much trouble to go through just to own a godly item, but I know the benefits (which include bragging rights) far outweigh the cons. Now, the only thing left for me to do is direct you to websites that 1) give an accurate description of Dusk Palace items and 2) show which boss drops which material to make your adventures in Perfect World Philippines enjoyable and worthwhile.
