Perfect World: Jump hack? Stop crying wolf

Recently, a clanmate, `Aribeth, has come under fire for her successive capture of the much-coveted Eye of the Jungle from the Jungle Relic, a dungeon in the massively multiplayer online role-playing game, Perfect World.

The tirades began as innocent questions on the Perfect World Philippines forums. Heck, the thread wasn’t even about `Aribeth’s success in getting the Eye of the Jungle or suspicion that she was using some sort of hack to reach the treasure room in four minutes or less. If you read the first few posts on the thread very carefully, it shows evidence that there really is a bug that some players are exploiting, that allows characters to jump from one location to another in the blink of an eye.

Some malicious players, however, have seen to it that the thread is focused on a single individual, `Aribeth. Here’s the first post, by a certain NOOP, that mentioned the alleged anomaly, but stayed away from directly identifying `Aribeth:

halata naman e 3-4mins kuha na ung eye ng mga YJ, sila lagi nakakuha dahil sa speed nila plus jump hack… ganito kasi yan pag pasok pills speed up at pag meron na malayo na distance between sa other playes di muna makita yan lilipad na yan diretso sa eye.

For the first 30mins dapat hindi lang isang GM ang bantay dapat marami kasi pde parin lumipad yan sa mga spots na di nyo na babantayan at advantage parin un. Bantayan nyo lalo na ung mga YJ ng guardians mga jumper po un 3 weeks straight sila nka kuha ng eye puro YJ lahat in less than 3-4mins.

Here’s a rough translation for the sake of our international readers:

It’s obvious (that there’s some sort of a jump hack) because Yao Jings (werefoxes in the international version of Perfect World) always gets the Eye of the Jungle because of their speed and the jump hack. It’s like this, they use speed pills plus their innate ability to speed up upon entering the Jungle Relic. When they’re already ahead of all the players, they use the jump hack to fly directly to the (treasure room where the) eye (is located).

For the first 30mins, there should be more than one game moderator to monitor players entering the Jungle Relic because exploiters of the bug can still start flying in secluded spots. Be wary of these players, especially the yao jings of the Guardians who are jumpers. It’s obvious because they always get the Eye of the Jungle in less than three to four minutes.

Although this NOOP didn’t mention `Aribeth directly, it’s clear that he’s out to implicate my clan and clanmates in some wrongdoing. Hell, he mentioned 1) “the yao jings of the Guardians” and 2) that a particular yao jing from our clan captured the Eye of the Jungle three weeks in a row.

Fortunately, most of our clanmates who are active in the forums rushed to `Aribeth’s defense, calling for an investigation into the bug exploitation and opening `Aribeth to any scrutiny that Level Up! Games, publisher of Perfect World in the Philippines, may enforce.

Personally, I know how good `Aribeth and/or her husband, JaMpAcK (no connection to “jump hack”), is at running the gauntlet in the Jungle Relic. How do I know this? Because I keep eating her dust. By the time I reach the treasure room, she’s already at the treasure chest digging away.

So my message to this NOOP and other antagonist of `Aribeth and the Guardians, please stop crying wolf. Produce proof and file complaints. Stop forum shopping.
