Perfect World: Frost City’s up … finally

After half a day of downloading, I finally got my Perfect World Philippines client up and running again. My first reaction to the latest Perfect World patch, Frost City: Both excited and disappointed. Let me explain.
I hate what they’ve done with the text or font. The previous font and spacing fit the Perfect World client to a tee. The Frost City patch ruined this. I’m using a custom resolution of more than 1280×1024. I’m sure those using a lower setting is going bonkers scrolling through the new in-game text.
I also don’t like the fact that you can now craft all types of pills at any pharmacist on the face of Pangu. This has wide-ranging effects, from rendering the territory castellans inutile (these castellans used to be the only NPCs where players can craft magical pills) to robbing some clans and their members of vital livelihood since they sell these pills at a premium.
Speaking of the loss of livelihood, yao jings (werefoxes in the international version of Perfect World) also lost a vital source of income. Prior to the Frost City patch, each monster a yao jing tames gives them a small amount of yuan, the in-game currency, through the sale of the eggs to vendor NPCs. In the Frost City patch, the eggs only sell for one yuan each (down from thousands of yuan per egg). Yeah, it sucks big time, especially for Malystryx, my yao jing.
There are cons to this story, though. We have spanking new mounts, the Cloud Elephant and the Raptor, which both have a base movement of 9.0 meters per second, compared to their counterparts, the Leopard, the Polar Bear, and the various horses, which have either a base movement of 7.0 m/s or 8.0 m/s. What’s even better is the new mounts sell for only 3,600 gold, or 1,600 more expensive than the Leopard and the Polar Bear for a 1.0 to 2.0 m/s boost to movement. It’s definitely better than the new wings, flying swords and mounts introduced in the Dusk Palace patch which cost around 300 percent more than their predecessors for only a 0.5 m/s boost to speed.
Well, I gotta get back to the game. I’ll update you about Perfect World Frost City in a later post.
